Anonymous handwritten letters containing a white powder were sent to various public figures including The Queen, the Prime Minister and various members of parliament. The powder was described as a poison intended to kill the recipient. Other letters of a similar nature were sent to mosques in the UK containing threats to kill. We were brought in at an early stage in the investigation to examine the letters with a view to identifying the sender.
- Detailed handwriting examination.
We were able to show that all the letters had been written by one individual. Following a two-year police investigation, a suspect was identified. We compared the suspect’s employment records with the handwriting on the anonymous letters and provided evidence to the Central Criminal Court sitting at the Old Bailey to show he had written all the anonymous letters. He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
