Case Summary

We were asked by a local council to investigate documents from a commercial garage which purported to show that employees had fitted appropriate converters to cars, completed smoke opacity tests and thus obtained Low Emissions Certificates via the DVLA. Such documents enable vehicles to enter the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) free of charge. Upon arrest, the employees at the garage blamed one another for falsifying documents. This made the prosecution difficult to proceed without handwriting evidence.

We were able to determine which individuals had written each document and who had impersonated another employee when signing smoke opacity test results.
